ER Nurse? or Pediatrics Nurse?

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

“I’ve seen the worst and the best of profession during my years as an ER nurse and now I definitely think I’m ready for a change. It can take its toll, seeing so many emergencies flash before your eyes through the years, sometimes I feel down right drained. I was thinking maybe to go into pediatrics nursing for a while. A friend of mine works in pediatrics and it seems so light and airy – more room to make connection than the ER. I think it’s a good idea to change things up every once in a while, keep it interesting.”

Traveling Nurse works with childrens

I am a Pediatric Nurse from Florida and I couldn’t be happier working with children! I don’t have kids of my own, so I look forward to working with children each and every day. Traveling as a pediatric nurse has been a pleasure because not only do I get to traveling, but I have the opportunity to meet children from all over the country! At times it gets tough dealing with children with severe health conditions, but overall, these children are what keep me going!

I want to help other people

“When I graduated high school I got married 3 months later, not realizing it at the time, I was just trying to escape life with my mom who drove me crazy. Now I’m divorced, have come to terms with my mom and just finished nursing school. I’m thinking about going into pediatrics. I think it will appeal to my need to help young people. Nursing school was challenging but I’m looking forward to applying all that I learned and becoming a true asset to my community. I have been through so much, I hope I can help people everywhere I can.”

Confusing nurse specialties

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

I know it’s probably too early to worry about this, but … I’m in my first year of nursing school and I already feel like I need to pick a specialty. And I don’t know which to choose. My mom is a pediatric nurse and she loves it, but part of me wants to try a different specialty. I love her and admire her…she’s the reason I got into nursing…but I feel like it would be following too much in her footsteps to choose pediatrics. I think its good to branch out. But I’m not sure which to do. I wonder if all nursing students feel like this? I’m going to go home for the weekend and have a long talk with my mom about this.

new to pediatric nursing

“I am relatively new to pediatric nursing. I actually always planned to be a public health nurse but I figured I’d try some new things before I settle into what I know I’ll eventually do. At first the job seemed quite daunting. There seems to be a very distinct pecking order among the nurses and it took some getting used to trying to fit into that order. My shifts are a bit chaotic, so that took a while to adjust to as well. But now I have to say I’m quite happy. Pediatrics is rewarding. All in all, I give 2 thumbs up to pediatric nursing!”

Traveling with the Kids

I just found a great article that answered all my questions about travel nursing and bringing your family with you. My friend works as a travel nurse with Access Nurses and they wrote an article called “Travel Nursing: Bringing the Kids Along” in one of their newsletters. How perfect is that?! It was so cool because the article gave me tips on how to find the right location that works for me and my family. I’m even more excited about it now.
